Chandrakumar is an ex-combatant from the civil war that prevailed in Sri Lanka. He is physically challenged due to a gunshot injury and is engaged in Passion Fruit cultivation which is his only source of income. ” I faced numerous difficulties when cultivating earlier because I did not have the proper equipment. I was about to give up, it was then ADRA intervened and motivated me by providing me the equipment I needed,” says Chandrakumar.
Through the second phase of the Local Economic & Social Strengthening (LESS) project funded by the Australian Government, ADRA assisted him by providing a water tank, concrete pillars for Passion Fruit cultivation, and a hose to water the plants.
He has now expanded his business by supplying his produce to Cargills PLC through CEDF (Community Economic Development Forum) linkages.
