Empowerment

Empowering local organizations to lead lasting change in nutrition and livelihoods is at the heart of our mission. By strengthening the capacity of Civil Society Organizations, we are creating a ripple effect of empowerment that reaches deep into communities across Anuradhapura and Nuwara Eliya. Through targeted training, mentorship, and resource support, these organizations are gaining the skills and confidence needed to design and implement impactful interventions that address malnutrition, food insecurity, and livelihood challenges.

Our approach is rooted in collaboration—bringing together local CSOs, government institutions, and private sector partners to create sustainable, community-driven solutions. This inclusive model not only enhances service delivery but also ensures that communities, particularly women, youth, and vulnerable families, have a voice in shaping their future.

As these empowered organizations continue to grow, they become catalysts for long-term resilience—strengthening local nutrition systems, creating economic opportunities, and improving overall well-being. The result is a transformation that goes beyond immediate relief, building stronger, healthier communities and laying the foundation for a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

AIM RECCEND I

AIM RECCEND I

The AIM-RECCEND project (Nov 2022–Jan 2024), funded mainly by the EU, supported vulnerable rural and estate communities in Nuwara Eliya, Matale, and Monaragala. Building on the ACCEND project, it strengthened community resilience during Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 and economic crises. Key achievements included renovating six healthcare facilities, improving hygiene and sanitation, providing school feeding and nutrition support for 600+ children, distributing 8,488 masks, and supporting dairy and other livelihood activities. Implemented by ADRA Sri Lanka with ADRA UK’s technical support, the project improved wellbeing, institutional capacity, and sustainable development across 34 communities.

AIM RECCEND II

AIM-RECCEND II (June 2023–April 2024), funded by the EU and implemented by ADRA Sri Lanka, provided emergency support to rural and estate communities affected by COVID-19 and the 2022–2023 economic crisis. Building on ACCEND and SECURE-SL, the project improved health, hygiene, nutrition, food security, education, and WASH services across 28 vulnerable communities in Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Monaragala. By strengthening community structures and institutional capacity, and delivering targeted interventions—from hygiene and nutrition programs to livelihood and educational support—it addressed urgent needs while helping communities become more resilient to future challenges.
