Health & Nutrition Planning Workshop

Through the Assisting Communities in Creating Environmental and Nutritional Development project, ADRA and Oxfam conducted a three-day residential workshop on planning from 30th of August to 01st of September 2020 at the Araliya Green Hills Hotel in Nuwara Eliya.  

The workshop was organized alongside the office of the Regional Director of Health Services with the leadership and coordination of Dr. Senaka Talagala, the Regional Director of Health Services. One key aspect of the training is that, it recognized that improvement in nutrition requires a multisectoral approach and involved the representatives from relevant sectors such as  the Department of Health, Education, District Secretariat, Plantation Human Development Trust, Estate Management, Ayuruvedic Medicine, Public Health staff and other governmental and non-governmental authorities from the Nuwara Eliya District representing both estate and rural sectors.  

The main purpose of the workshop was to contribute towards the development of a District Nutrition Action Plan for the Nuwara Eliya district which outlined the actions that needed to be taken to improve issues pertaining to nutrition in the district. Another objective of the workshop was also to develop the capacities of the participants in the process of planning. Furthermore, the workshop was facilitated by Mr. Upali Navaratne, who is a freelance Development Planning Consultant with over 30 years of experience in the field.
