Children Deserve the Best (CDB) project is a five-month (from April, 2019 to September, 2019 ) project funded by the Czech Republic Development Cooperation and implemented by ADRA Sri Lanka to contribute towards the psycho-social development of children of the tea estate communities in the Central province. Through this project ADRA has assisted the Lower Cranely Tamil Vidyalaya in Agarapathana, Nuwara Eliya in numerous ways.
Recently, ADRA conducted Children’s Hygiene and Sanitation Trainings (CHAST) for 60 students of the school. The trainings were facilitated by CHAST trainer, Mr. R. M. Devapriya. Altogether, seven tailored interactive sessions based on the CHAST Manual (Children’s Hygiene and Sanitation Training Model) which focuses on personal hygiene trainings, were implemented to provide insight to children, addressing the daily importance of personal health and hygiene, promoting healthy living. The trainings were conducted in such a way to empower the children to make them advocates, within the school and their communities to promote healthy living. A supplementary parent’s session was also conducted, with the trainer to broaden the training’s impact.
Furthermore, the feedback received by the Principal, teachers and the students of the school were immense. The school thanked ADRA and the Czech Republic Development Cooperation for conducting such an interactive and informative training to promote the importance of healthy living.
